Data driven rehabilitation for elderly
CHALLENGE
THERAPISTS NEED MORE DATA
The physical therapists do not have the resources to give their patients an effective and independent consultation putting the patients recovery at risk.
PATIENTS LACK GUIDANCE
After a patient has undergone a hip replacement they lack the appropriate guidance during their recovery process after a hip replacement.

SOLUTION
The Biocoach analyses how the patients perform their rehabilitation excercises and simultaniously registers their pain levels. Using this data, the therapists can then increase their efficiency using data collected by the Biocoach and give the patients personal advice tailored for their situation.

PROJECT DETAILS
COMPANY
Biomet is a medical device manufacturer focussed on protheses. They aim to reinvent the entire journey of a patient undergoing a joint replacement operation.
PROJECT
This project is a major part of the Advanced Embodiment Design master course given on the Delft University of Technology. The focus of this course is to experience the realization and materialization of a concept.
MY ROLE
In a team of 6 my role during this project was mainly foccused on research. However, I spend a lot of time gaining experience in 3D CAD modelling, translating this to a 3D printed model and integrate all the electronics within one prototype fit for user testing.
